All Spicer axles are identified with a manufacturing date (1) and a Bill of Material number (2) stamped on the right or left hand axle tube. The model number will be cast into one of the webs as shown (3), or it can be on the nose. Each axle contains a gear ratio tag (4), and if the axle is equipped with a limited slip differential, it will have a tag specifying the type of limited slip carrier used (5). Sometimes these number can eaten away by rust and become unreadable or be missing completely. You may also identify and axle by the stamped number on the side of the ring gear or on the end of the pinion. The number to look for will be 5 to 6 numbers long and contain no letters. There are also casting numbers between the webbing's on the ring rear side of the carrier that can help identify what carrier has been installed. You must gather all this information before ordering parts.
