Suggestions for bushing replacement.

It is not uncommon to have the spring mount plate 3/8 mounting bolts snap off in the yoke of the radius arm. It is imperative that the broken bolts be removed properly. New radius arm assemblies are not being manufactured at this time. On occasion,  used radius arms available.

If a Machine shop is not available in your area, Pathfinder 4wd Van Accessories can have the arm repaired. Call for pricing.

Extraction suggestion.

If a portion of the bolt protrudes from the yoke, weld a 3/8 flat washer to the broken bolt and then weld a hex nut to the washer. If this fails, drill and extract by traditional methods

Disassembly Suggestions

It is best to remove the entire front axle and suspension.

  •   Jack up the van and support the van’s frame with jack stands or heavy blocks.
  •   Unbolt the front drive shaft from the front axle pinion yoke.
  •   Remove the front left and right side brake calipers. Hang the caliper in the wheel well via a hook or wire to prevent the weight of the caliper from stretching the brake hoses.
  •   Unbolt the upper shock and spring retaining clip.
  •   Disconnect the front axle breather hose.
  •   Remove upper track bar bolts from engine cross member.
  •   Remove the drag link from pitman arm. Don’t mess it up with a pickle fork. Remove the cotter pin and nut, and hit the end of the pitman arm eye with a 4lb or bigger sledgehammer. It should pop out with a couple of moderate well-placed blows.
  •   Separate radius arm from rear radius arm drop bracket.

Support the front axle on a couple of well placed rolling hydraulic floor jacks, and pull the entire axle with it’s suspension out from under the van.

It may be necessary to heat or cut off the nuts and bolts that must be removed.

DO NOT Remove the 5/8 lock nut on the threaded ends of the track bars with Air Tools, you risk snapping the threaded end off the track bar. Heat up the track bar lock nut and remove it with hand tools.
